Review: The Sapphires

'The Sapphires' is based on a true story of three Aboriginal sisters and their cousin who are discovered by a talent scout (played by Chris O’Dowd from Bridesmaids). They then sing their way to Vietnam to perform in front of the USA troops.

It is a good paced, feel good movie with a few surprises. The girls are amazing singers and their singing numbers will definitely have you tapping your feet.

As well as being a great story, 'The Sapphires' was extremely funny. I believe that the New Zealand and Australian sense of humor is very similar and therefore the whole theatre was in stitches during quite a few scenes. Chris O’Dowd was an absolute screen stealer – he had some great lines!

I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good comedy with a few tears but guaranteed laughs.

'The Sapphires' opens in New Zealand on Thursday (4 October 2012).
