Review: Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

This star-studded film was released last Thursday (just in time for Valentine’s Day) and many reviewers are already singing its praises. But what did our team think of it?

Jess and Becca share their thoughts below.

I went and saw this film with one of my best friend’s on Valentine’s Day. At first we thought we had made a terrible mistake; walking into a theatre FULL of couples only reinforced that we were both single and spending Valentine’s Day together, rather than with a gorgeous boy!

Luckily the movie was so good that we soon forgot about all the hand-holding couples around us.  I love films that focus on a wide range of people, not just two main characters, so this was my perfect rom-com. It’s like the American Love Actually – lots of love, lots of heartbreak and lots of feel-good moments.

But the highlight of the movie? That would have to be Ashton Kutcher’s character Reed Bennett. What a cutie! If anyone knows of any cute, lovable, straight florists then please... point me in their direction!

Being a celebrity freak, there was no better reason than to get along to this movie and see so many famous people on one screen. I went with two of my best friends, one of whom was madly in love; the other had just left her love in Australia…whilst I was battling my own love problems, trying to decide whether to give a past relationship another go.  So we all had a different reaction to each character.

Being a great cynic of Valentines didn’t help, so Jessica Biel’s character related to me the most. Organising an Anti-Valentines Day Party seemed perfect for me but the ending for this character suddenly related a whole lot more to me and my situation. Meanwhile, the madly in love couples related more to my other friends as well as the long distance relationship between an army officer and her guy back home.

All in all, I agree with Jessie. The movie is full of amazing celebrities of whom all play characters that portray the complete opposite to themselves. It is awesome seeing the 2 degrees of separation between everyone and how their love lives are affected by Cupids celebratory day. The humour, the heartbreak and the never-ending string of relationships keeps you tuned and your heart fluttering.
