Health 101: Super Foods

Super Foods

Why is it that we hear so much about bad foods, but so little about the really good ones?  There are so many delicious foods out there that are crammed with essential nutrients for the body.  Here are my favourites!

Strawberries
Who doesn’t love strawberries? This delish summer fruit is packed with vitamins (A, C & K) and they has even been said to contain anti-cancer, anti-viral & anti-bacterial properties! In other words, strawberries are great for the immune system. Just another excuse to eat them, really!

Blueberries
So you thought strawberries were good... well blueberries are even better! Not only are they an antioxidant, but they also act as a blood cleanser and can benefit eyesight!

Salmon
Next time you go for sushi, try salmon & avocado – it is yummy and super, super healthy! The fish oil from salmon is great for balancing hormones – so think better skin, better bones & better teeth!

Kidney Beans
These are just like baked beans, but better. They are high in fibre & great for balancing cholesterol. Add them to mince dishes such as nachos, taco’s or burger buns to get a delicious kidney-bean fix.

Oats
Try having muesli or porridge for breakfast – your body will thank you for it! Oats are great for digestion and your bones. They also give you heaps of kick-ass energy to start the day with J

Tuna
Like salmon, tuna is also great for the skin and your hormones in general.

Spirulina
I know the colour may be off-putting, but the taste is fantastic! It tastes just like a regular fruit smoothie jam-packed full of goodness, only it’s green. Plus it has been said to fight tumours, be anti-aging and to be a great source of protein.

Eggs
There are so many delicious ways to eat eggs – and the good news it, they also help boost the immune system.

Yoghurt
Yoghurt is great for your intestines & general wellbeing. However – only the real stuff (live, organic yoghurt) works... not the chocolate stuff, unfortunately. Try making your own with EasiYo – it’s delicious, easy and oh-so-healthy. You can find EasiYo makes at your supermarket. www.easiyo.co.nz

These are only a sample of some of the amazing foods out there that are fantastic for your health. But as a general rule, the more fruit & veges you eat, the healthier you are going to be! Happy eating everyone.

Fibre is the way to go! lol It fills you up, makes you feel fuller for longer and helps wickedly with digestion! Porridge is so old school, but is the most awesome way to start the day.
