Beauty Tutorial: Smokey Eye

In the lead up to Phoenix Cosmetics third consecutive year at New Zealand Fashion Week we asked founder Phoenix Renata to give us her step by step guide to the perfect smokey eye.

Apply a concealer around your eyeCreate the perfect baseCreating the smokey edgeNext apply a black or dark grey eye shadow over the top of the black pencil.EyelinerMascara
Apply a concealer around your eye

Step 1

Apply a concealer around your eyes - this is an important step, a concealer opposed to foundation will give you a thick and dense base for your eye shadow to cling to. Having concealer underneath will make your eye makeup stronger, and last longer.

For this look phoenix used:

  • a matte foundation to create a flawless base
  • a bronzer on the cheeks and
  • to finish a beige lipstick and gloss.

#19LucyPayneNZ08/09/201220:14Wet your eyeliner jel brush before you apply and it will go on more evenly (: xxxxxx
#18Chonzy8505/09/201220:12Use white eyeliner on the inner rim - makes eyes look bigger
#17Arnie05/09/201220:05If your just going out casually don't wear too much make up!! Just maybe cover up the zits (haha) and put a lil gloss on and maybe even a swipe of mascara, you want to stay looking young and natural!! Natural is always nice ;)
#16DirtyxSecret05/09/201218:50If your wearing eyeshadow, and you want to apply mascara, place an index card just behind your lashes, so that the residue doesn't go on your eyelid, but the index card.
#15Andypandy05/09/201211:51Check expiry dates on make-up. It does have them.
#14sarah.woolley2404/09/201212:24moisturize before putting makeup on
#13Jen 04/09/201211:45Don’t pump your mascara or it’ll dry out faster.
#12Jasmine Thornton04/09/201207:58Always test your foundation first! Nothing worse than looking like an oompa loompa! Haha, and also that sometimes minimal make up is the best, not always, but sometimes the more natural you are, the better :)
#11nzgurl9703/09/201223:06To apply moisturiser and primer for a clean and tidy finish for your smokey-eye look.... easy! :-D
#10kimberley_xo03/09/201220:45Use a bit of foundation under your eyes + some blush - simple and easy! :-)
#9melissa xx03/09/201220:25Use white eyeliner to line inner corner of eyes or bottom waterline to make eyes pop or make you seem less tired :)
#8Demi03/09/201219:40Tinted moisturiser! I swear by it, and its multi-functional! :)
#7Kaileyanna11203/09/201218:51Apply top and bottom eye liner for a more sophisticated look, and only on the top to open your eyes up, for a more brighter and perkier look:)
#6Kaileyanna11203/09/201218:49To open up your eyes, curl your lashes <3
#525micky03/09/201218:06Always apply sunscreen- to prevent premature aging. And apply Primer, to make your makeup last all day.
#4AliciaPhillipps03/09/201215:50To avoid lipstick on your teeth, put your index finger in your mouth and then draw it out slowly with your mouth closed. What you see on your finger is what would have ended up on your teeth!
#3_Gracecw9603/09/201211:43For dry lips, exfoliate the lips using a homemade honey and sugar scrub and then use a baby tooth brush to help get excess skin of lips. Then use a hydrating lip balm or lip stick (depending if you want color or not)and use daily.
#2nicolenewzealand03/09/201207:15use moisturiser daily and always wash your make up off before bed
#1Tessa Prince02/09/201218:13Drink lots of water it'll give you a natural glow
