Everyone wants their time in the lime light and so many of you wonder how Kimberley herself got into the business!
Here is everything you need to know about getting into the business yourself, special tips from Kimberley and a bit of background into her career. Enjoy.
What made you get into the business?
I have always wanted to perform, whether it be acting or dancing. After landing the role on Shortland Street in 2006 I have definitely become much more passionate about the industry. I love my job and hope to continue working as an actress both here in New Zealand and offshore.
For those wanting to become an actor what are your tips?
Learn as much as you can. Take as many courses and classes, in drama, accents, stunts and for camera. Being an educated actor is so important.
How did you land the job on Shortland Street?
Like any role, there is an audition process. I had just found an agent to represent me and she sent me out to the casting for Sophie McKay. I did my audition and the three call back auditions that followed and then one day while I was in math class I received a call saying I had landed the role!
Do you recommend taking acting classes or did you just go for it?
Yes, you have to have training. Not many Casting Directors would see you for an audition without having some sort of training behind you. Whether it be a degree or perhaps good speech and drama results from school or a reference from a drama teacher.
What are your tips for auditions?
Be confident. Make clear choices, ask any questions you think you might need to know. Dress appropriately for the character you are going for. Most importantly, know your lines and be able to take direction from the Casting Director.
How do you get an agent?
Contact them. Do some research online and see who you like the look of and who they already represent. Then send them an email or give them a call and arrange to set up a meeting if they are interested in representing you. Then they will advise you from there with what you need to do. This will usually include getting some head shots done. Good luck.
So get out there and give it a go! Remember its all about passion, love and determination...we believe in following your dreams and if you try hard enough, anything is possible.
